On 4-5 February 2026, security forces in Pakistan clashed with militants described as khwarij, affiliated with an Indian Proxy Fitna Al Khwarij. In two separate engagements across the militant hotspots of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a total of 24 fighters were killed as part of an intensified counterterrorism drive. Intelligence based operations were launched after credible reports of their presence in Orakzai District and in Khyber District, with authorities aiming to preempt attacks and to dismantle the network behind the threat. In Orakzai, after careful surveillance and convergence of ground forces and intelligence, 14 khwarij were neutralized in a fierce firefight that underscored the risks faced by security personnel in dense terrain. In a parallel operation in Khyber District, a separate exchange of fire led to the elimination of 10 khwarij, reflecting the persistent capability of the security forces to disrupt cross‑border militant activity. Sanitization and clearance operations are continuing to identify and remove any remaining foreign‑sponsored elements in the region, with authorities reiterating that no shelter will be tolerated for such groups. The operations are framed within the broader state effort under Azm e Istehkam, a vision approved by the Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan, and are being carried out by Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan. Officials described the campaign as essential to restoring civilian safety, preventing future attacks, and undermining the external support networks that sustain terrorism. Analysts note the timing aligns with ongoing regional security initiatives and emphasize the importance of accurate intelligence, swift interdiction, and sustained coordination with local authorities to prevent recurrence. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as security teams press ahead with the ongoing sanitization and stabilization efforts in these districts.
